An interesting season as far as the leading Sire.

Instant Reaction (QH)      with 3 individual starters/ 3 winners of 6 races/5 seconds/1 third from 12 starts heads the list--but narrowly.

                                          Hezasmartwon  (3)  Dun Deal (2)    Justazhot (1)

Mookta (TB)                    with 3 individual starters/ 1winner of 6 races/2 others placed second 3 times / 2 thirds from 12 starts

                                         Buzraami  (6)

With Class (TB)                with 2 individual starters/ 2  winners of 5 races /4 seconds /1 third  from 11 starts.

Elbarto   (3)     Fade To Blue (2)

Thunder Chick (QH)         with 1 individual starter/1winner of 4.5 races from 5 starts

                                        Bymyside    (4.5)

Summary:  41 individual horses

                 17 (TB)  won 16 races

                 24 QH (reg/unreg) won 24 races.  40 races run/8 meetings.

Trainer of Year 2008/2009    Adrian  Ireland   ---   Runner Up  Tony Smith

As the dust settles

23/11/08

Well there wasn't any dust - only  25m rain and a howling head wind!

An interesting days racing, with some close finishes.  As an added note,  the newly acquired starting gates couldn't be positioned at

the 300m position,  so 365m was the order of the day.

Here to Go (Tony Smith) won the maiden from the fast finishing TB Just Mary's Ballad trained by newcomer Hayley Grellet.

Dun Deal came in third after some interference.  The winner, formerly trained by Robyn Kelly, had shown much last season

so it  wasn't a surprising win.    It was Ala Dozen's  first winner from only two starters racing.

The Challenge Stakes was again won by the "Champ" Bymyside, albeit by a reduced margin over In Vogue which was also runner up

at their previous meeting.  Fortune Cookie ran her usual consistent race but found the winner too strong. When you realize the round

float trip for Bymyside is about 10 hours, she carries maximum weight ,  is 8 year old and only a petite mare in comparison to others who

mainly only travel minutes to the races compared to hours , she's not bad HEY!

Another of Kelly's former string won the Class 1 in Yabbadabadoo (what a mouth full!).  He was too good for TB'S Princess G  and Kaput.

That win brought up a double for Kody Eldred, a promising young and very game rider.

The next race won by Alcatraz, who jumped a class to beat his more experienced rivals -  2 starts, 2 wins, still learning with a bright future.

He could be the "Find" of the season. Trained by Emma Steele and presented extremely well in the yard.  Barmaid Billie ran the race of

her life to go down on the wire, another win not far away for her.  Hezasmartwon who was a late scratching due to a floating mishap

robbed the race of some interest.  She Knows coming back from last start 2nd to Elbarto over 700m was running home hard into third place.

The last race (open 365)  was again taken out by Buzraami, narrowly from Fade To Blue and Super Trooper with Elbarto 4th right there

in the mix. The winner trained by Annette Blanch who also trained In Vogue to run 2nd in the Challenge.

In an overview of the day it is interesting to see that Alcatraz and Here To Go  have something in common.  Anuther Belle,

dam of Here To Go, is a full sister to the sire of Alcatraz (Tiny Model), both having the Ballard Bird (champion 2&3 year old in

Queensland before racing ceased on TB tracks) as a full brother -  who says breeding isn't important?  To add to this Ala Dozen's

dam was a half sister to Lion Lady (the dam of Tiny Model, Anuther Belle and Ballard Bird), both being out of Femme Fatal who is one

of the most notable mares imported from USA.

In a first  for many years, we were able have electronic timing on our races, with the VRQHA  trialling a suitable device on the day.

Overall well received even if some thought their horses were faster than the time showed.  No good having your head in the sand!

As The Dust Settles. 7/12/08

Race 1 Maiden:  Dun Deal (4/1)  upset the more fancied  Just Mary's Ballad with the well bred Likearockstar third (much improved run)

A Smart little horse (Dun deal) who was a little unlucky last start, continues to add to the list of progeny by Instant reaction

who have been in the winners stall.

Race 2   Class 2:  On paper it was an even field, but in reality it was a one act affair - on the line anyway! Tennia owned by Linda McDonald

claimed Barmaid Billie and Alcatraz  at the finish pulling away to win by a length. The placegetters were valiant in defeat.

Race 3   Challenge Stks:  Almost the same result as on other occasions except minor placings reversed. By my Side after treatment

for a injury she carried in her last start increased her winning margin to 3 lengths, (Some Racing Machine)

Race 4    Open  Hdcp:  No surprizes!!  Buzzraami first home once again ,Super Trooper right there too with Destiny's Fullfilled in third

place  having changed from the challenge series  to try her luck in Open class and ran in the money.

Race 5    Class 4  702 m  Was won by a worthy adversary  to Elbarto (yet to meet) as in Cecil Henry who had previously won 2 sprints and

who left Hot  Diddidy and Blurr in his wake, 5 lengths eased down by comeback jockey Adam Ryan.

A fantastic day and great racing. Close finishes, good crowd and exciting atmosphere.

Two new jockeys both showed plenty of talent, Gretel Wilson formally from Queensland, now based in Melbourne and  Shane Bonham from NSW,

who is on a short visit here with trainer Greg Douglas.

The Kelly camp had enjoyable week end arriving in their new "Bus" with horses in tow. Like the rest of us had nice social night out, but differed in that

they went home with three winners. Great Stuff ! they are and have been great supporters of the sprints.

Sprint enthusiasts from as far as Broken Hill ,Wentworth, Melbourne, St Arnaud and Nhill attended and enjoyed the day.

Congratulations again to the Birchip community for putting on such a great show. The hospitality and the food was the best! found only in places like this.

The Calcutta which was run on the night before, created a lot of interest. The highest priced horse  Buzraami  ($600)  actually won the race, so those buyers would have been happy.

Buzraami now is favourite to win the final of Presidents Cup. The Birchip cup was his 10th win from 13 starts, not bad for a TB cast-off. He is trained

by Great Western identity  Annette Blanch

New trainers Hayley Grellet from Great Western and Jack Coffey from Birchip notched up their first sprint winners

BIRCHIP RACES 16TH MARCH 2008   Photos on Photo Gallery Page

                                           As The Dust Settles

Race1
A great result for Annette Blanch.  Even being hospitalized herself didn't stop her going to Birchip to gain another winner
Buzraami, like Annette,

went there with winning on his mind, and that he did!  Princess "G" ran a much improved race for second and
newcomer Hot Lips filled third.

Race 2
Could have called it the match race of the season. What a finish!
Super Trooper on the rail lead hands and heels.   200 out Fortune Cookie

now under the whip, kicked up to put its head in front, but David Johnston bided his time and with 50m to go pulled the stick and 'Super"

(and he is!) regained the lead and won. No disgrace on Fortune Cookie. She beat "Super" at his first start
by a short/half/head.  Many onlookers said it was a dead heat or should have gone the other way-- up until recently we would never

had known. Fortunately we now have Photo Finish equipment.  That win is number 4 straight for the son of Lady Wembley, half brother to
Sir Wembley, Blue Boy's image and Cash'n'Balance.  Old Sundew King ran third but didn't threaten.

Race 3
Well the favourite (
She Knows)  won well from the fast finishing Syrene with Rockafella there for third.
"Goodonya" Doug Rand - you have been patient!  He had a slow horse, traded it in for a faster horse and won!
Won't be any stopping him now!

Race 4
The Birchip  trainers race was won by
Boyz in Berri trained by Corey Wright The Axeman second and hot lips Third.

Race 5
The Birchip Cup.  A great spectacle! With the Adrian Ireland trained
ELBARTO making it 3 wins in a row by grabbing
Black Betty on the line.  Old Indi Star showed some of his best form to be close up for third. Great racing! It sure thrilled a large crowd.

Lenny Andrews again the star of the saddle - 2 wins and a 2nd from 3 rides!

I have to make mention of the Birchip Community effort !!  Look, as I arrived i saw the great facilities; Marquees with air/conditioners,
plenty of man made shade and boy did we need that with 40 plus heat.

The hospitality was something else.  The people have been doing it tough because of the drought, but when they set their minds on doing
something they sure made it happen! Many volunteers did an enormous job.

I have to single out the track curator Jack Coffey and helpers,.  What a mighty job preparing the track.  No joke - the best surface we have
raced on all season.   Thanks Fellas!

                                    As The Dust Settles Camperdown

Race 1   Well it took a while to plan it. But it went as the script said. Tennia came, ran and won as she liked, it was nice!

Heaven Knows ran into 2nd a head of Here To Go(3rd) and Dun Deal who had their own match race, only the bob of the head         between them.

Race 2    Well a return to form for Bymyside saw her defeat More Hassels and Mabenjak

Race3     A much awaited return of Super Trooper didn't disappoint; he treated the opposition with contempt.  5 lengths to Blurr  and Easy Dozen third.  Nothing more to say.

Race 4    Cecil Henry what a find! Now a class 4 horse, there were other runners but nowhere near "Cecil"

Fortune Cookie was runner up, and Hezasmartwon a fast finishing third.

Race 5    What an exciting race up until the turn, about 6 a breast on the corner when 'Lenny' hit the SUPER CHARGER

button on ELBARTO who EXPLODED away to win by 6 lengths. Another smart TB. Rockafella ran 2nd and   Fabulous  Dancer 3rd.  Rumour has it ,The Roman Rodent

was having his last start. He has been a  great money spinner and given many owners and punters many thrills over his racing life. Goodonya 'Rat"

`     In closing I have to say that with few exceptions our Quarter Horse blood is 25 years behind our Tbred's,   with the  availability

of the  shuttle TB stallions, we have the best in the world. The last recognised sprint bred  Quarter Horse sire was   Easy Dozen 28 years ago.

I think some home work needs to be done!

I can't say seeya until I mention  Lenny Andrews; he doesn't get the opportunities he deserves. A former sprint  premiership winner,

he is riding like a man possessed, 2 rides 2 wins at Camperdown and polished rides at that.

        Keep it up Lenny!

Don't forget Birchip on 16th march and  VRQHA Conference on 27-28-29th Mortlake

As The Dust Settles on Panmure

Race 1.  A interesting race, Hot Digiddy made it 3 in a row when he mowed down Destiny's Fulfilled right on the line.A great battle

for third  with Doug Rands new acquisition Heaven Knows pipping Dun Deal at the distance.

Race 2.  Marbenjack caused a season upset by rolling Fortune Cookie and More Hassells. Not much in the margins ,exciting stuff!

Race 3.  This was a race someone will never forget! Namely new trainer Annette Blanch!  her first win, and congratulations too.

The winner Buzraami scored a narrow but convincing win over the Tony Smith trained Fabulous Dancer with Syrene  filling third place.

Race 4.  The Pat Kelly owned Cecil Henry (a definite Smokey) cleaned up the ever consistent Hezasmartwon with

GoBarbie Go running third.

Race 5   The grey Elbarto trained by Adrian Ireland stormed home to beat the Tony Smith runner in Price Of Love who was

trying to win her second in succession (having won at Caramut). The maiden sprinter Rockafella impressed by

                    running third.

The new Panmure track proved an outstanding success, being alot flatter and the surface albeit sandy loam was  no

more than 40mm deep and even. Some fast times were run. A top job by the Panmure community in the preparation.

As the Dust Settles

reflection, the day at Caramut was a great one, many winners but most importantly RACING won.

Some of the most exciting finishes seen in a long time

RACE 1 3YR OLD

CLASS 2                      Destiny's Fullfilled Jumped in front railed up and proved too smart.

RACE 2  Class 2     Hot Digiddy  (smart little horse) won its second race from 2 starts after wearing down Blurr who ran its usual honest race.

RACE 3    OPEN 400   Black Betty the up and coming star jumped from a maiden win 3 meetings ago to roll Bymyside and Fortune Cookie

 The champion mare Bymyside

tasted defeat the first time in about 3 years but was far from disgraced, the others  aided by fitness were better on the day. Watch out next meeting.

RACE 4  CLASS 1  500   A little money wagered on some of these, a couple of city cast offs, but no match for the little grey who gave them a

start and was too good.     The grey being Hezasmartwon.

RACE 5 OPEN 500       On paper what a field! Price of Love just a little too good, but only just. ! Black Betty having her second run was

right there ' Red Hot Chilli Pepper ran third, last years Hi Point horses More Hassells blew the start and ran accordingly,  but will live to fight again.

Sensational day's racing ,one that will be remembered. Congratulations to the Caramut committee .

Robin Kelly  Trainer of the day 2 wins

                                                    As the dust settles

There wasn't much as the track was perfectly grassed the fallout from Sunday's meeting is positive.

Although the fields were a little on the small side competition was good.

Perhaps the highlight of the day was the 3year old race.

Race 1   The first starters behaved like old professionals and the precocious Barmaid Billie was too smart on the day.

That being over 320 m  next time the distance is 400m it will be interesting as the 2nd placegetter Here to Go

was making a run on the line.

Race 2   Fortune Cookie made it a one act affair even though Sundew King wasn't that far away.

Race 3    Black Betty (by Mookta TB ) showed that she has a future in this sport.

Race 4    Was the closest of the day Blurr just defeating the "old grey" The Roman Rodent (trained by G. Greaves)

when they meet at Terang in 2 weeks over 600m it should be a great race with a few others in the mix.

The leading trainer of the meet was Kate Murnane with 2 winners.

The VRQHA is very fortunate ,  it has a great support base, which is greatly appreciated.

                                                                            As the dust settles

Sunday 20th January was an overcast and somewhat damp day: But the racing was exciting with close finishes        .

Race 1  3 year old           Was quite close affair with Barmaid Billie leading all the way and just holding off Destiny's Fullfilled and

the first starter  Dun Deal .The quality of education of these young horses is a credit to their trainers.

2  Class 3                Fortune Cookie notched up win 4 of her career in beating the improver Black Betty in the run to the

3 Maiden               Newcomer Hot Digiddy upset the more fancied runners to run out the victor over Fairdinkum.

4 Class 600            Go barbie Go trained by Carole Dunn and ridden by her daughter Sam ran down the more

fancied Blurr to win a head bobbing finish. Its good to see new trainers get a win so early

                                     in the season.

5 Open  600          The runner up in the class 3 Black Betty showed that she's the up and coming one by taking out the open

when having her second run for the day. Princes G ran a good 2nd only a head away .  She seems to

have a future being by General Nedyim out of a Snippets mare.

Sam Dunn rode a treble and David Johnson a double on his first meeting.

Daniel Noll son of Steven Noll well known Gippsland jockey showed experience

beyond his years to get into the placegetters on debut.

The track was in excellent order being a little on the dead side after a lot of rain.

The stewards were on the job keeping the jockeys up to the mark.

Random swabbing was carried out! The cost of this process these days is much more

affordable as is the swabbing of jockeys.

Safety is paramount in this industry.

 Trials  29/12/2007

Around 20 horses trialled at Caramut. It was pleasing to see new horses with new trainers attend.

The three year olds proved to be interesting as they represented sires Model Bird, Instant Reaction and Ala Dozen. the mares that they were out

of were of the highest quality. Barracoota (one of the best of her time in Queensland) Anuther Belle (Full sister to Bellard Bird All Australian Futurity winner)

Pacific Bird out of (AA Derby winner Pacific Dozen) Better Chick unraced 1/2 sister to Jet Chick 10 wins Qld and to Thundering Chick  Gympie Gold sires,

Chicks thunder multi winner and sire. Last but least a filly out of a Go Far Bob mare, Go Far Bar Bob (imp) the only stallion ever to run AAAT

on all official distances in USA.

Amongst the new trainers, Doug Rand who was successful back in the Calder Park days. Other trainers not there, Tony Smith,  Bill Davies

Peter Gray  Dennis Peach  Max Dods have horses in work and we will see them soon.

As an incentive the VRQHA has allocated $1000 bonus for the seasons Hi Point Trainer, Jockey and Horse.

Sunday 6th January the first meeting of the season will be at Caramut (transferred from Penshurst),  See you there!

As The Dust Settles at Mortlake

Race 1

Destiny's Fulfilled returned from a brief lay off to score impressively from the improved She Knows with Dun Deal for third.

It must be said that the 3yrolds  are a credit to their respective trainers, you'd think that they had been racing for years.

Race 2

Having changed stables on the day,  Syrene put in a fantastic effort to get up and head Yabbadabbado (who was on his best behaviour)

right on the line. Rockafella, ever consistent in the placings, filled third.  An exuberant Noel Brooks, a  former Tb  trainer who is a new

face here will be an asset to our ranks.

Race 3

The best restricted field seen for some time, and didn't disappoint. Fortune Cookie turned the tables on Super Trooper this time

 and Marbenjak filled third place.

Race 4

The class 2 400m  was taken out by the smart Annette Blanch trained Buzraami and the ever consistent Blurr ran second.

A disappointing Hezasmartwon ran third. This was the first time that he hadn't drawn barrier one in nine starts and consequently ran greenly.

Race 5

What a horse!  Elbarto  of course. Has now won four on the "trot". Looking good for "Horse of the year" if this trend continues.

Black Betty always puts in a good effort and ran second, with the much improved Princess "G" running third.

The Mortlake Cup Carried added incentive to the competitors in a service to multiple winner

A pretty low key day in horse numbers and crowd but all the same some interesting racing.

Race 1 -- 220 class  4.

A very hotly contested affair with Fortune Cookie doing the best on the line.  Margins were half length x half length

Race 2 ---360 class 2.

Destiny's Fullfilled held off Easy Dozen and Hezasmartwon to win by neck x neck there was no  greater margin between them for entire trip.

Race  3 --360 class 4.

A match race between the TB (Buzraami) and QH ( Fortune Cookie) was just that, with Buzz only getting

the upper hand on the line. Two exciting compeditors with 9 wins between them for the season.

Race 4 --650 class 4.

Blurr the ever consistent mare stuck her neck line to win from the much improved Grey Dam.

Race 5 -- 650 Open

Its simple, Elbarto started and won!! 6 lengths to Hezasmartwon (having his 2nd start)  and Fairy Image third.

That's 6 wins for the season from 8 starts.

Lenny Andrews  "rode the card" 5 winners--a great effort.  The 2008 seasons leading Jockey with 18 wins.

Tony Smith once again with a treble is leading trainer. Bymyside showed again she's the best sprinthorse racing,

even thou More Hassels  served it up to her in their first encounter to go done by a head.

In the second race he (More Hassels) got pushed off the track in the early stages and made a late bid but the mare had flown.

Ampra Jedda wins her final start                               Bymyside defeats More Hassels by a head

Ampra Jedda  who was said to be unsound last year ,proved the Vets wrong by winning the class 3, while 6 months in foal.

She has now been retired to the broodmare paddock in foal to Model Bird.

Fortune Cookie bred by Birdhouse Stud and now owned in the same interests as Blurr (Allan and Kate Murnane) won

the maiden at her first start in Victoria, and looks to have a few more wins in her.

Probably the best days racing ever held at Panmure, track was perfect and the racing very competitive.

 Mortlake Sprints:

Superb day of racing, great autumn weather brilliant venue, excellent crowd (over2000)

Race 1     More Hassels controlled the race from the beginning, won as he liked . Blurr ran its usual honest race.

Race 2     Super Trooper caused an upset win against the more fancied rivals in Hemp Jet (narrowly beaten)

and Cochise who was doing his best at the end. The winner is a up and coming star.

Race 3      Hezasmartwon blew his rivals away, he has been a little unlucky in the past but stood up here .

Race 4      Bymyside continued her winning streak, but narrowly from Tacka a much improved run and Indi Star only 1/2 length

away after Adam Ryan got his feet knocked out of his irons when barrier gates bounced back,

the best bit of horsemanship seen for a long time, to be beaten1/2 length, not been  able to use the whip

                     and  staying on.(next time)

Race 5      Tacka returned to winning, with a superb display, Fortune Cookie put in a great performance to go down by 1/2 length

and Blurr ran on for third.

New kids on the block --Simone Collett and Kody Eldrid  (jockeys) both rode a winner Congratulations !!!!!

Super Trooper  won his second race having been ridden also on his debut win by Kody.

Cathy Chinner:   formally one of Australia 's most successful sprint jockeys returned to the saddle after a absence

of 15 years, to ride the winner of the Roxby Downs cup over 1600 m. In the $8000 cup she rode an outsider for an

old friend in Phil Dodd who had links with old horses namely Blue Boy's Image and Mighty Jet, who were two

top liners in their day. Without a doubt the most talented horseperson that I ever legged onto a horse.

 Easy Dozen Story

Pammure 2005

Panmure races what an event!!!  This Sprint Racing extravaganza just gets bigger and better every year.

To be honest I am so blown away by it all, not to mention exhausted by it that it is difficult

to know where to begin to tell you about it.

This is not only the biggest Sprint Horse event in Australia, but it is also such a huge day off the track.

As we were driving in, a big red helicopter was flying over taking people on sightseeing adventures,

endless marquees, tents and bands, just fantastic!

However there was no denying what everyone was there to see and that was the list of champion

racehorses that they had been reading about and hearing about in the media leading up to the event

and boy these horses did not disappoint.  On a sunny day hovering around twenty eight degrees with

a slight breeze to keep the flies at bay the racing began at around one o'clock.

Race one was a class 1-2 and won by the favourite Ampra Jedda, trained by Adrian Ireland.

This horse looked a treat in the mounting yard and was always going to be hard to beat,

and with the ever reliable Ron Dixon on board, she was never in any trouble.

Race two was on for young and old literally!  My own evergreen seventeen year old Hemp Jet

and four year old Australian Champion Bymyside were the two horses that the race ended up being between.

Unfortunately for my old mate Hemp jet  Bymyside  just kept surging forward to win in style.

This horse is an absolute super mare, something really special.  Tony Smith from Wirlinga owns and

trains this mare and does it so well.  She is all class. I have to mention Tony's new jockey Melissa Ralph.

She rode winners for most of the day and has a great riding style, not to mention courage, especially

when the giant Tacka felt a bit fresh heading up the the barriers at one stage.

Onto the prestigious Warrnambool Cheese And Butter Factory Panmure Cup.  By this stage the sponsors marquee was

overflowing with sponsors, champagne, waiters and security guards, guarding the all important stunning engraved vases,

winners cheques and magnificent flower arrangements.

The classy sponsors marquee almost matched the class of the horses parading in the mounting yard.  The power and

strength of the Cup runners was just awesome.  Horses such as Tacka, Barron Falls and Impressive Duke are just pure power,

running against the speedy sleek thoroughbreds like Indi Star and newcomer Zarevic.  It was always going to be a race

to remember and I know that I will never forget the sight of them coming down the straight.  The starter and barrier

loaders could not believe the power that flew out of the barriers with a clean even start.  It was not long before the

powerhouses Tacka and Barron Falls fought it out to the post resulting in Tacka winning the big event, trained by Tony Smith.

Tony could do no wrong at Panmure, his horses were just magnificent and frightfully fast.  I got a sneak preview at

Tonys horses at the Camperdown training day two weeks before Panmure and they were right on song for Panmure.

A top trainer is Tony Smith, who was then bombarded with handshakes, hugs, slaps on the back, speeches and gifts for his efforts.

Race four was the maiden which was won by our own Win D Marbenjack (named after our sons Marcus, Benjamin and Jack).

I am thrilled with this young son of Totanka Yotanka.  He came all the way down to Victoria from Queensland as a colt.

We gelded him, had the talented Victorian Murray White break him in, and since then we have been training him slowly,

so for him to come up and win first upt a Australia’s premier Sprint Racing event was a great achievement.  I have to give

credit to Melissa McCarroll his jockey who does all the hard yards with the horses at home for his win.  All that work paid

off to see Melissas face as she galloped through the finish line, this was something to remember. Also one to mention in

this race was Dale Zunneberg, a new trainer who made his presence felt with his horse Speedy Annie, who came home for

second place.  Dale was thrilled with this effort and congratulations to him.

Race five was the Moyne Shire Open Challenge of six hundred metres.  Six horses were entered in this event and you could

hear the crowd screaming, none louder than me when the horse I train called the Roman Rodent won.  This was a super race,

really tough to the end with all big horses ploughing up the turf.  I'm so proud of this old guy, he tries and tries and this

was his race.  Newcomer trainer Kate Murnane and newcomer jockey Adam Ryan were the surprise packet in this race.

While all the runners were fighting it out over the last fifty metres, Kates thoroughbred Zaravic came flying down the

outside lane bringing home second place.  This was a great thrill for Kate who had a tough day controlling her two strong

chestnuts in the mounting yard.

The last race for the day was a four hundred metre class 1-4.  Bymyside backed up beautifully winning this race from

Ampra Jedda.  Bymyside was never troubled all day giving Tony Smith a win in every race he entered and Tonys

jockey Melissa Ralph tied with Ron Dixon for jockey of the day and Tony Smith winning trainer of the day.  Presentations

were then carried out and while the band started up again and people carried on partying, us poor tired trainers and

horses packed up for the journey home.

So that was The Panmure Races and Country Fair for 2005.  Probably the best in horse racing we have had, as everyone

had a great day and with professional starters, barrier loaders and stewards, Sprint Horse Racing was projected just

the way we want it to be, with just a few minor areas to address.  Tony smith with his champions Mymyside and Tacka

were the toast of Sprint Racing and they certainly deserved it.  As for Panmure, it is the envy of Race Clubs everywhere.

How a tiny community can come together and produce a show of this size and attract this much talent is just incredible.

Well done Panmure, see you next year.

Chiltern Race Report September 22nd 2001
Reporter O.J.Morgan

Today, the Victorian Racing Quarter Horse Association (VRQHA), hosted their first Sprint Race Meeting at Chiltern,

Victoria. The track was in excellent condition, thanks to the efforts of the Racetrack Committee, local organizations and most of the local community.

As is customary in Victoria, the betting public were catered for by the Victorian Bookmakers Association, who also offered betting on the Melbourne races.

The VRQHA would like to take this opportunity to thank the team of unsung heroes of the day, i.e. the Chief Steward Mr Terry Chinner, Stewards Bob Farrow

and Geoff Chamberlain who demonstrated expertise in controlling the meeting and ensuring that every participant followed the correct procedures.

Thanks also to the Starter

and Barrier Attendants Peter Rooney, Mike Taft and Matthew Catto who performed a difficult and sometimes dangerous task with skill and perseverance.

There were many duties to be carried out in order to run the race meeting, and these duties were performed by VRQHA members and associates.

A big thank you to Scott Cummings who donated his riding fees back to the race club to buy trophies for “Trainer of the Day” and “Jockey of the Day”

for the next meeting.

The card consisted of five races commencing at 1:20pm. The results are as follows:

Race 1 INDIGO SHIRE CLASS 1-4 SPRINT 320m

Chiltern Race Report January 1, 2002
Reporter O.J.Morgan

The first race meeting of 2002 and the penultimate race meeting of our current season, was very successful. We attracted a slightly larger crowd

than the last meeting.

We hope this growth will continue. The track was officially “fast” and the weather was overcast but pleasant. Our thanks go again to the voluntary

workers who make this event possible.

The Chiltern Sprint races have attracted wide publicity this week. The Weekly Times (Kim Woods) published a picture and editorial comment on

 the set up at Chiltern.

The Wangaratta Chronicle gave us a big feature article. The Border Mail reporter, Xavier Mardling, interviewedJohn Honeyman and published a

picture of the finish of The Telegraph Hotel Sprint,

won by Myers Pride, ridden by Karen Fieldand trained by Bill Roberts of Wagga. With the picture was an article on the racing.

Our bookmaker Mr Geoff Miles had an article published in The Winning Post.  The feature race of the day The Chiltern Cup was won by Judges

Verdict ridden

by Mick Lilliebridge and trained by Rodney Mancell of Quialigo.

There were several new faces present, some trainers, jockeys and some horses. We are always happy to welcome all.
