Sullivan's Run QH Stud
Well I guess most of you haven't heard of the above name or of its future significance but you soon will !!! if I'm right it will be a regular name touted around sprint and barrel race people in the years to come. The start of this ongoing story was a little over 2 years ago when Allan & Sheryl Sullivan imported 2 Sprint mares in foal from the USA. These mares (which are featured further down this page) were both in foal to the sensational Stallion Stoli (by First Down Dash-All time leading Am sire) and in time foaled a colt out of "Scoot n Fly" and a filly out of "Shez Nobody's Darling' to Northern hemisphere time. Like many other many other Australian "Sprint Horse" breeders I had looked forward to the maturity of these foals and after a long time (it seemed) they are now 2 year old. Several weeks ago after a invitation by the Sullivans to come visit I did exactly that. After a 5 hour drive from Casterton I reached the front gates of "Sullivans Run" a very picturesque property on the banks of the Darling River about 25 K north of Wentworth on the Pooncarie road. As I drove up the long drive way I couldn't help thinking this was "SprintHorse" Utopia. No expense spared on fencing, irrigation and pasture selection.

The foot high Lucerne waved lazily in the breeze and I noticed the mares lift their heads on the approach of my vehicle and then went on eating without a care in the world while their foals, a colt and a filly by Brimmerton played in the sun. I stopped in awe ,the last imported sprint blood of note was Easy Dozen in 1980- some 27 years ago. I felt a lump in my throat, the quality of these horses I had never witnessed. I've trained and raced against the likes of Easy Watch, Easy charger, Dozen Editions, Pacific Dozen, Instant Reaction ,Hemp Jet and Bymyside --- but these are something else!! The 2 year old colt "Sullivans Run" (out of "Scoot n Fly") is a magnificent animal different to most here in Australia, a little more elevation and a longer rein, he is just turned 2 years and as a three year old he will be everything the Aussie breeders have been looking for, even though they don't know it yet. Our Australian mares have become a little too muscled and need to be a little taller. The filly (by Stoli) out of "Shez Nobody's darling" (lovely mare, don't be put off by the name] is a beauty, she is a little more like our Australian bred ones but more than a touch of class. The 2 weanlings by "Brimmerton"(First Down Dash) both chestnuts make your mouth water, I can't wait to see them run.
